After rise in suicide cases, Kerala govt may allow online liquor sale during lockdown

On Saturday, a youth committed suicide by jumping into a river after suffering from withdrawal symptoms in Kodagalur in Thrissur district.

In another incident, a 38-year-old man working in a barbershop in Kayakulam consumed shaving lotion after not drinking alcohol. Although he was rushed to hospital after restlessness, he died.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in a press conference that the sudden unavailability of alcohol may lead to social problems.

CM Vijayan has also directed the State Excise Department to provide liquor to those with a prescription from doctors, ANI reported.
